Lesley Duncan
IT Manager
I’m invisible to most clients, but that’s the way it should be. I’m basically the person who puts in place the systems that allow a virtual firm like ours to work collaboratively. I also enable the firm’s technophobes (of which there are several, but I’m naming no names!) to function. I try to keep everyone up-to-date with new technology and make best use of it too. Last but not least, I deal with the crises that inevitably arise when a document goes missing or a laptop mysteriously refuses to work.
Before More
I studied mathematics at Durham University but, deciding that becoming an accountant or actuary involved far too many more exams, plumped for a career in IT. Despite my dislike of exams I did return to academic life for a time to gain an MSc in Software and Systems from the University of Glasgow. After working for a wide variety of larger organisations, I started up my own one-woman computer consultancy 12 years ago, providing software and database development to small businesses. A chance meeting with Iain More at a Dundee Chamber of Commerce lunch led to a long-running relationship providing hands-on and remote support to Iain and, as the firm grew, to all the other partners.
Outside More
I switch off from computers either by trying to tire out my very energetic one-year-old border collie cross, Bonnie, or by playing the saxophone and trombone in a couple of big bands in the Dundee area.
