Attracting more major gifts
We might be good at raising lots of little gifts, but how can we attract more big ones?
This is one fundamental question that we’re called on to answer time and time again. Of course, the answer will depend entirely on the nature and history of your organisation. But one thing is for sure: targeting major gifts – from individuals, companies or charitable trusts and foundations – is a highly cost-effective way of fundraising. And historically, it’s an area where certain types of organisations (such as universities) have excelled more than others (charities).
Most of us have first-hand experience of raising gifts of seven-figure sums or more (in pounds, euros and/or dollars). Better still, we’ve become skilled at passing on our expertise. We can advise and train you on how to identify and manage potential donors, then make the ask, close the deal, thank and follow up. We can work with institutional leaders, key volunteers, development professionals… or even the donors themselves.
